BZP is a non-religion/faith/whatever forum. It's just how they are. they thought it would help their popularity by being "open" to beliefs. But they are really closed.

So the kid is going to hell because he couldn't post to Christian sites in his sig? What?
You think Christians get in trouble on sites like BZ, try being a PAGAN on sites like BZ. Reason #325 I left.
Hewkii Inika - April 3, 2007 11:25 PM (GMT)
Actually, Nickbomb didn't say anything of the sort, Arri.
Algernon the infamous - April 4, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
He did place quite a bit of disproportional emphasis on the religious side of the issue.
That said, BZP is incredibly close-minded. "Homophobia is Gay" is only offensive to the chronically homophobic, and breaks no specific rule, but I got banned anyway.
It's RUN on a basis of your religion. Don't complain.
Toa Vezorn - April 8, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
I get where your comin' from but just because of that why should you just leave? Yes I'm a Christian also.I want to do the same but I can't.
Nickbomb - Overkill PMer - April 8, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
As far as I see the deal, why take away a precious legal liberty thats not opposed to the government?
Iruini Nuva - April 8, 2007 06:59 PM (GMT)
Personally I find it unbiblical in some ways to revolt over this issue. Christians are told to respect those in authority. Now there are times in which there are exceptions, such as when the authority requires you to do something explicitly wrong. However, there is nothing wrong with a website opting to remain religiously neutral. It's not that hard to be a light without blatantly advertising it, especially considering that such actions are against the authorities' rules. ;) Simply put - be a Christian there and other opportunities will reveal themselves as God wishes.
Algernon the infamous - April 9, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
And either way, preach to BR and you could get away with just about anything.
As I said, an Atheist like me has quite a few more problems in BZP than you Christians.
wolf waltzing - April 10, 2007 02:59 AM (GMT)
I don't like BZP, but that has less to do with restrictions as is with the absolute mind numbing dullness I feel when on it...
BG - June 9, 2007 02:28 PM (GMT)
BZP is a hypocritical, pretentious, and facist forum.
BR banned a kid who was named "Mr. Bush" just for having that name, yet BR himself had a large Bush avatar at the time.
He banned me for calling him a jerk ON ANOTHER SITE. The person who ratted on me gave him a direct link to the topic, which is unallowed. But BR let it pass.
You know, I realize that the rights of speech thing only apply to government areas and not private organizations, but this is ridiculous. I can't carry on a half decent conversation conversation there. Plus it's full of noobs.
Screen stretching pic linkified.
Iruini Nuva - June 9, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
Might I ask how you came to the conclusion that the word 'Bush' = banning? Especially seeing as the general public is not informed of the circumstances regarding a banning. Being a staff member there myself, I can assure that that in and of itself tends not to merit banning. Generally, someone banned that early posts something horrendous while they're still new. The members (you included) tend not to see that side of it because we can usually get it covered in five or ten minutes.
Forum links are allowed under certain circumstances, such as in news reports or when someone openly sasses an Admin. Disrespecting someone in authority is a completely legitimate way to get yourself banned.
Is it full of noobs? Yes. Is it hard to carry on a decent conversation there at times? Yes. Is that what happens (or will soon) on pretty much every forum? Yes, unless you like forums with even stricter rules.
Algernon the infamous - June 9, 2007 09:27 PM (GMT)
Go ahead, rationally explain how my banning was justified and normal. Please.
Iruini Nuva - June 9, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
I don't know all of the details surrounding it (why should I?), nor would you feel that any reason I present is legitimate, so I see little purpose in even bothering.
To my knowledge, the whole "Homophobia is gay" thing wasn't the only reason for it. Your ego has bothered the Admins and FLs for quite some time. This can be clearly seen from their occasional visits to the Anaglyph topic telling you to shut up. I'm not certain what caused your suspensions or your original banning, but I presume both did play a part as well. From what I have gathered, you were given multiple chances and failed to deliver. The "Homophobia is gay" comment was simply the last straw. You can't honestly expect any decent mom to be pleased that her seven year old encountered that.
Personally, I find bashing BZP to be extremely immature (this applies to BG as well). You were wrong, you got banned - deal with it.
wolf waltzing - June 9, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)
Me no likez BZP, for me own reasonz though. Never been banned, never cared enough to try to...or to rock the boat. Nopez, I'm a steady as she goes kinda gal. And I found BZP too boring to sail in...Of course, that is, I have no real like of Bionicle *gasps* my secret is out, lol.
There, I add my two unwanted cents in order to interrupt the petty fight that seems to be boiling...I can smell the bones in the broth.
Algernon the infamous - June 9, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
Look here, BR found a parrot.
First of all, if you don't understand the reasons of my suspension, you can't rationally judge a situation you have no knowledge of. My initial suspension was caused by none other than my democratic views that BR found somewhat displeasing. After posting a topic on global warming, BR paid the thread a visit and closed it on the account that Global Warming was a bunch of hooey. I PMed him with a relatively polite complaint, which resulted in my suspension. After smooth-talking B6, I ended my suspension early, but I was shortly suspended again for reasons I wasn't told about until I was let back on. The reason, it seemed, was that it was discovered I had encouraged Cee-Estee to post a spammy last topic. In truth, I had nothing to do with it- I was only present at the moment he posted. With both of these questionable bannings on my record, my signature "homophobia was gay" was, as you said, considered the "last straw" and I was banned permanently.
Bashing BZP for the sake of the act isn't incredibly mature, no, but when the claims are backed with real experience and evidence then it's much less mature to mindlessly serve the monarchy you call BZP. Rather than making your own judgments on the morality of the BZP authority, you assume that, since the authority deemed it so, it must be wrong/inappropriate/etc. That's a lazy way to avoid taking responsibility for your actions.
You might argue that you do indeed judge the situation with your own mind and have already decided that BZP is in the right, but I can easily prove that isn't the case with a sentence you just posted.

| You were wrong, you got banned - deal with it. |
Although you admitted you have no understanding of my BZP drama's backstory, you assume that, only because I was deemed unsuited for additional BZPower participation, I must have been incorrect about it and I was banned rightfully.
Really, get a clue.
wolf waltzing - June 9, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
Ah, the broth is at full boil now. Perhaps kind words shall cool the stove and this foul stench be stopped
Algernon the infamous - June 9, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
The soup analogy sort of ruins the mood set by the implication. :P

BG - June 9, 2007 11:11 PM (GMT)
IN, here you are telling me that I am making an assumption about "Mr. Bush"'s banning, and then you go and make an assumption about Alg's banning. To be perfectly honest, that's pretty hypocritical of you.
Iruini Nuva - June 9, 2007 11:15 PM (GMT)
My first point is now proven. :P
The second one you missed entirely. You honestly just need to be quiet and let it go. You're not going to achieve anything other than making yourself more annoyed.
For an agnostic relativist, I find it amusing for you to speak of absolutes. What authority do you have to say that they are in the wrong? They built it, they have every legal right to run it as they see fit. If you disagree, you don't have to be there. I don't have the details, but seemingly you are a bit hazy on them too. The point is - on their terms and ground, you were wrong. One is required to respect that. And they have every right to act as they choose, regardless of your opinions.
You were banned rightfully according to the rules set in place. If it wasn't rightfully for you. Too bad. Just move on dangit. How hard is it?
@ Biogreg - What's wrong with making assumptions? Yours was made when you had no authority to assume. I am the only person on BZP staff, and as such I have far more right to guess the Admins intent, because I interact with them quite often.

If you're going to say that this conversation serves no purpose and won't be tolerated, why did you contribute to it before shutting it down?

Depending on the post it may be permitted to live, for example all of your posts that could be considered "deconstructive" haven't been a problem. But trolling and ranting about how bad BZP is is simply not acceptable. Biotech is currently a supporter of BZP, so we're not going to see how many people can bash it here. In fact it's against my better judgment to even let this topic exist, but if we can actually get some civilized and half-decent conversation out of it, perhaps it'll stay.
