Mhm. I've been going through a number of designs, but I haven't decided yet whether to go for it. The issue is simply time frame. I can make decent stuff in one month, but traditionally those have been software, not games.

Don't think of it as being vastly outnumbered, think of it as ----------------having a wide target selection.
You play as a kid who's trying to reach the north pole. You go on a grand adventure involving snowball fights, sleding, snowboarding, snowfort building, penguin tag, polar bear capturing, toy making, raindeer riding, guiding santa's sliegh, delivering presents quietly and sneakily, minigame/loading screen of eating cookies and drinking milk.
I know, that time frame is awfully small. It might be best to just wait until the next one. The way this was phrased (requiring that you specify this game is for contest '01', etc.) implies there should be plenty more.
A coloring program isn't all that hard. One of the trickiest parts is making a paint bucket sort of tool. Doable, but the most obvious methods are rather slow.
